Artist of the month January 2022
Carrie
Carina Morawetz but everyone calls me Carrie.
In January I will be 31 years old, I am a mom of 2 kids and live with my family in Austria, in the foothills of the Alps. I am self-employed and offer me-time concepts in the creative and mental field.
In my store you can find my products and workshop programs. Every 14 days I publish a column about Me-Time:
On Instagram I like to take you along in processes: @carriemorawetz
Interview
That is me in five words:
A miracle of pure love.
What role does being creative play in your everyday life? Are you creative in other ways besides watercolor and lettering?
Creativity defines and guides my life. It starts with me finding creative solutions to everyday challenges, to my other great passion: cooking and gardening, and of course creativity plays a very important role in my professional life. Not only in terms of brushes and paint, but also in developing workshop concepts for my clients. Offering added value and making an experience out of it. These processes also have a lot to do with creativity. I also love to write and always try to pick up my column readers with touching stories. Here, too, a strong, creative process takes place. I just love it.
You travel to a desert island and may only take one pen / brush / paint - what do you choose?
Great chance, I immediately think! Because as I was already allowed to learn, the creativity unfolds with a "fixed" set-up so right. That's why I love the Creative Box by Royal Talens so much! So I can skip the overload of too many utensils on the table (or in the case beach) right away. I would say: Stifteliebe, send me a surprise package on the island. Maybe I'll surprise myself again with creative ideas.
Where do you find the most inspiration?
In beautiful stores and in nature. My paintings and works are very much inspired by the botanical world but I also like to dabble privately with other motif worlds. Because I am very curious and know that there is so much beauty and so I always keep my eyes open around everywhere. Small stores (last noticed again when I was in Scandinavia) surprise me again and again with their designs and so I like to take inspiration from color combinations or style elements here.
How did you manage to find your own style?
I let the Carrie in me out. Yes, that's exactly how I did it. I completely discarded all limiting, negative "blah blah" alà "that won't work, that doesn't look good". If something doesn't work out, I simply tear up the paper and do it again. I allow myself to fail on my way and I also allow myself to fly high. A: Wow, that's great! Without comparing myself to anyone. In the beginning it always makes sense to follow so-called role models and to learn, but I find it helpful for oneself if one always takes room for one's own turns. Piece by piece you will then let go of templates and predefined and bring more of yourself on the paper. It is a wonderful process that is in constant change. So I am also sure that my floral works in 2 years will look a little different than today. Good so! Because movement is important.
Do you sometimes have a "crea-low" and if so - what do you do about it?
Yes, I do and I just don't do anything about it. What I learned, I share with you today.
The more I try to fight something and put energy into something where it's just not meant to be, the more I get into the vortex of the low. So I let it be. Go with the flow, I always say. I trust that after every low comes a high and after every high, a low is allowed to come again. Our creative mind needs this rest and so we can devote ourselves to other things during this time. Perhaps to sort his pictures times, to deal with the mixing of colors and further educate or just to be.
Do you have role models - if so, which ones?
Role models for me are people who follow a passion from pure heart. That is something that not only touches me, I admire. That's how everything in life should feel, like passion. Doing things with love and devotion. Anyone who dares to do that is a true role model for me.
Creativity and social media - what are your thoughts on this?
Light and shadow. How wonderful that in this day and age you have the opportunity to show your creations, get feedback, share and reach people with it. How sad it is that at some point you can only be defined and motivated by it.
Do you have other creative goals and dreams you're looking forward to?
Oh how much time do you have left to read? Bold combinations, bold contrasts and lots of scope.
This is what I want to share with people to help them grow in different areas, especially their creativity & mental health. I wish to connect topics like self-love and vision boards even more with creative implementations and make them accessible for people. I dream of making creative me-time accessible in various facets and to take people by the hand and show them possibilities for their own creative development.
Many things have already come true here and many things I still want to realize on my way.
- Thank you for the interview, dear Carrie
