Interview
That's me in three words:
committed, enthusiastic, sensitive
What role does being creative play in your everyday life? Are you creative in other ways besides watercolor and lettering?
Lately I've also been painting a lot with gouache and acrylic markers. I also distinguish between my professional and private creativity. Besides lettering and watercolor, which I love to do, but also professionally, I like to switch off privately with drawing or pointed pen calligraphy.
You're traveling to a desert island and are only allowed to take one pen/brush/color with you - what do you choose?
A fineliner. It can be used in so many ways.
Where do you find the most inspiration?
I can't really say. Sometimes my clients tell me where to look for new inspiration because I have absolutely no new ideas for a job. Then I get very creative and go searching. But I also search a lot in creative magazines. I find that very helpful.
How did you manage to find your own style?
I feel like I haven't necessarily found my style at all, but like to try out a lot. I also change again and again. I prefer to try out several painting and drawing techniques rather than perfecting one direction.
Do you sometimes have a "crea low" and if so - what do you do about it?
Yes, absolutely. If I don't have an assignment for which I need new ideas, then I like to take a break and just be creative in a different way. Then I prefer to bake or let my sister teach me how to crochet.
Are there any artists you particularly like - if so, which ones and why?
Oh dear. That's mean. There are so many incredibly talented artists. It's hard to choose just a few.
Creativity and social media - what are your thoughts on this?
Without social media, I would never have had access to the wide variety of creativity out there. I didn't have relatives and acquaintances who painted and drew. I didn't know what you could do with it. A big advantage. Of course, though, it's important that we consume social media wisely, because we quickly get into unhealthy comparing or get depressed when we get fewer likes on our pictures. It's important that we learn to deal with the downsides of social media. I am in a process as well, but feel like I am on the right track.
Do you have any other creative goals and dreams you are looking forward to?
I feel like joining a painting trip one day. That's on my to-do list.
Thank you for the interview, dear Christin :)
